Allowing visitors to view your wares and shop as they go is a popular convenience on many of the best commercial websites today.

The technical challenges involved include :

• retaining the cart's contents as the visitor freely roams the site
• remembering cart content if the visitor has left the site, then returned before completing their purchase
• allowing for maintenance of inventory pricing, availability, and descriptive information
• securely processing the customer's payment
• completing the sale by presenting the order to the company's fulfillment department
